Uzbekistan, Qatar explore new wave of energy cooperation
Uzbekistan and Qatar are exploring a
new wave of cooperation in the energy sector, with plans ranging from lubricant
production to the manufacturing of oilfield equipment as both sides seek to
deepen industrial ties and expand local production.
Uzbekistan’s state-owned Uzbekneftegaz and Qatar-based AL ALFIA HOLDING discussed opportunities for
joint projects during a meeting between Uzbekneftegaz Chairman Abdugani
Sanginov and Zaynab Al-Yusuf, a representative of the chairman of AL ALFIA
HOLDING’s Board of Directors.
According to Uzbekneftegaz, the
sides highlighted the steady development of trade and economic relations
between Uzbekistan and Qatar and discussed ways to broaden cooperation across
the energy sector.
A key focus of the talks was the
potential localization of lubricant and related-material production at
Uzbekistan GTL. The parties also examined plans to establish domestic
manufacturing of wellhead equipment, an area that could strengthen Uzbekistan’s
industrial capabilities and reduce dependence on imported products.

Beyond import substitution, the
proposed projects could open the door to technology transfers, new technical
expertise and greater domestic value added in Uzbekistan’s oil and gas
industry.
The Qatari company was also invited
to consider participation in a number of promising projects currently being
developed by Uzbekneftegaz.
“The parties confirmed their
readiness to further develop mutually beneficial cooperation and continue
practical work in the agreed areas,” Uzbekneftegaz said.
The discussions come as Uzbekistan
continues to position foreign investment and industrial localization at the
heart of its economic development strategy. In the energy sector, the country
is increasingly seeking not only investment in production but also the
development of domestic manufacturing and supporting industries.

For Qatari investors, the emerging
opportunities offer a route into Uzbekistan’s expanding energy and industrial
market, while for Uzbekistan, closer cooperation with Gulf partners could help
accelerate technology adoption and strengthen local supply chains.
The two sides agreed to maintain
dialogue and pursue practical work on the initiatives under discussion,
including lubricant production, wellhead equipment manufacturing and other prospective
energy projects
