Qatar warns of serious economic repercussions owing to Middle East conflict

Qatar has warned that attacks on energy facilities in the region amid the ongoing Middle East conflict could have serious economic repercussions worldwide.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari said that strikes on energy infrastructure by both sides have already created a dangerous precedent and could affect the global economy.

“Attacks on energy facilities that have already occurred — from both sides — set a dangerous precedent, and this will have consequences for the entire world,” Al-Ansari stated.

He also accused Iran of increasing attacks on infrastructure in the region, stressing that strikes on civilian facilities are continuing. “We reject any Iranian justifications for these attacks,” he added.

Al-Ansari further noted that although Iran’s president had issued an apology, it was not accompanied by concrete action after missile strikes targeted cities in Bahrain and the UAE.

Separately, Qatar’s Ministry of Defence reported that a missile aimed at the country was intercepted on Tuesday.

According to Al-Ansari, Iran must halt attacks before any negotiations can begin, though communication channels with all parties remain open in efforts to end the conflict.

Responding to a question about the possibility of escorting ships through the Strait of Hormuz, he said the priority should be stopping attacks on Qatar’s energy facilities.

He also revealed that since the conflict began, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani has held only one phone conversation with Iran’s foreign minister, although diplomatic communication with Tehran has not been completely cut off.

“Any attack on Qatar will be responded to accordingly,” Al-Ansari said, adding that countering Iranian aggression has become a priority due to its potential impact on both Qatar’s economy and the global energy market.
