McDermott wins contract to decommission 27 platforms in Qatar

McDermott has been awarded Qatar’s inaugural offshore decommissioning contract by QatarEnergy, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s energy sector. The project involves the systematic retirement of 27 aging offshore platforms, along with associated subsea infrastructure including pipelines and cables, across the Al-Karkara, Idd El-Shargi, and Maydan Mahzam fields.

Under the agreement, McDermott will develop a comprehensive technical and commercial framework and conduct detailed techno-economic studies to ensure the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible decommissioning of these assets. The U.S.-based engineering firm brings decades of global expertise, building on its experience in offshore decommissioning and LNG projects, such as the Monkey Island LNG export facility in Louisiana.
