Qatari and South American cyclists promote cultural exchange
Eighteen cyclists from Qatar, Chile,
and Argentina have embarked on CultureRide 2025, a unique
cross-continental cycling expedition designed to foster cultural understanding
and strengthen ties between the three nations as part of the Qatar–Argentina
and Chile 2025 Year of Culture initiative.
Created by Qatari adventurer and
television presenter Ali Bin Towar Al Kuwari, the 500-kilometre journey begins
in Puerto Varas, Chile, passing through Pucón, traversing the Andes Mountains,
and continuing into Argentina’s Patagonia, with the final destinations in Villa
La Angostura and San Martín de los Andes. Over eight days, the cyclists will ride
through scenic lakes, volcanoes, and mountain towns while engaging with local
communities and athletes.

“We’re here because we believe that sport can build bridges between nations,” said Ali Bin Towar, who leads the Qatari team. “We’re excited to cross the Andes and experience the rich cultures of Chile and Argentina. Though we come from different backgrounds, we’re united by our shared humanity.”
Joining the expedition as a local
ambassador, Chilean journalist and explorer Luis Andaur emphasized the importance
of the initiative in showcasing southern Chile’s natural beauty and
hospitality. “Puerto Varas is the tourism capital of southern Chile — a perfect
gateway to share our country’s charm with the world,” he said. “This expedition
isn’t a competition; it’s about unity and connection. I’m sure the Qatari
cyclists will return home with unforgettable memories of the warmth of the
Chilean and Argentine people.”
