2029 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship to be held in Qatar
The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has officially awarded Qatar the hosting rights for the 2029 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship, following a board meeting held in Manila on Friday.
Qatar's successful bid marks a historic milestone—the first time the prestigious tournament will be held in the Middle East since its inception 70 years ago.
After a comprehensive evaluation process, the FIVB praised Qatar's proposal, citing its world-class sports infrastructure, modern transportation networks, and the country’s firm commitment to developing volleyball and sports more broadly.
The event will bring together 32 of the world's top national teams, showcasing elite-level competition and drawing global attention to a region increasingly recognized for its excellence in hosting major sporting events.
Leadership reactions
HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), hailed the decision as a testament to Qatar’s growing influence in global sport.
“This is a proud moment for Qatar and reflects our proven ability to host world-class events,” he said. “It also underscores our Olympic ambitions and our desire to foster global cooperation through sport.”

He emphasized that the championship supports Qatar’s broader vision to position itself as a leading destination for international sports, reinforcing its aspirations to host the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
HE Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain, Secretary-General of the QOC, echoed these sentiments, describing the win as a vote of confidence from the FIVB.
“We are honored by the trust placed in us,” he said. “We are committed to delivering an unforgettable championship that will set new standards in experience and sustainability.”
He added that preparations would begin immediately in collaboration with national and international stakeholders to ensure a seamless and impactful event aligned with the QOC’s 2023–2030 strategic goals.
