A high-level delegation from the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has delivered a major shipment of Qatari medical aid to Syria, valued at over QR45 million ($12.5 million), as part of the “Take Heart Syria” initiative.

The delegation, led by QRCS President Yousef bin Ali Al-Khater, included Secretary-General Faisal Mohamed Al-Emadi, Assistant Secretary-General for Relief and International Development Mohamed Bader Al-Sada, and Assistant Secretary-General for Communication and Resource Development Mohamed Ahmed Al-Beshri. They were received at Damascus International Airport by Syrian Minister of Health Dr. Musaab Nazzal Al-Ali, Qatari Embassy Chargé d'Affaires HE Khalifa Abdullah Al Mahmoud, Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARCS) President Dr. Mohamed Hazem Bakleh, and other senior officials.

The aid—transported aboard a Qatar Emiri Air Force aircraft—included 12 tons of advanced medical equipment to support Syrian hospitals in delivering critical health services. This followed three earlier land convoys, which carried 78 tons of equipment from Doha via Saudi Arabia and Jordan. In total, 90 tons of supplies have been delivered under the initiative.

Strategic humanitarian cooperation

The shipment was made possible through donations from Sidra Medicine, Al-Tafa’ol Trading Company, United International Trading Company, and Doha Health Care Group, in coordination with QRCS, SARCS, and Syria’s Ministry of Health.

“This aid is the result of fruitful cooperation among Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sidra Medicine, Syria’s Ministry of Health, QRCS, and SARCS,” said Al-Khater. “It is both a message of solidarity and a contribution to revitalizing Syria’s healthcare sector, helping millions of Syrians gain access to essential medical services.”

Since 2012, QRCS has implemented relief and development projects in Syria worth $160 million, benefiting more than 13 million people across health, shelter, food security, water and sanitation, and livelihoods.

Support for Syria’s health system

Dr. Al-Ali welcomed the assistance: “This initiative is not just about equipment—it is a lifeline for patients and renewed hope for our medical professionals. It reflects the strong bonds between Syria and Qatar and the power of humanitarian solidarity.”

HE Khalifa Al Mahmoud stressed Qatar’s long-term commitment: “Since 2011, Qatar has stood by the Syrian people. This shipment reinforces our determination to enhance resilience, support health infrastructure, and provide critical supplies across governorates including Al-Suwayda and the coastal regions.”

Dr. Bakleh of SARCS also commended the initiative, calling it “a true embodiment of fraternal ties between the Syrian and Qatari people,” and noting its vital role in reducing pressure on Syria’s strained health system.

Wide-ranging medical support

According to Al-Emadi, the shipment included X-ray machines, anesthesia and dialysis equipment, ventilators, incubators, laboratory testing systems, plasma and biological freezers, neurological and cardiac monitors, clinical decision support tools, stretchers, disinfection equipment, consumables, and first-aid kits. These will enable Syrian hospitals to restore or expand suspended services and improve access to specialized care.

Al-Khater reaffirmed QRCS’s commitment to deliver further aid and intensify support to Syria’s healthcare system, ensuring that medical institutions are equipped to meet the needs of vulnerable populations.
