Qatar held funeral prayers on Thursday for six people killed in an Israeli strike on the capital, an attack that has drawn a wave of Arab and Muslim leaders to Doha in a show of solidarity.

One coffin draped in a Qatari flag and five others bearing Palestinian flags were carried into the Imam Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab Mosque. Among the dead were five Hamas members and Qatari security officer Lance Corporal Badr Saad Mohammed al-Humaidi al-Dosari.

Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani led the mourners, standing in the front row, a gesture seen as underscoring the Gulf state’s high morale after the unprecedented attack.

Israel claimed to target Hamas officials in Doha on Tuesday as they discussed a Gaza ceasefire proposal, killing six but failing to hit the group’s senior leadership. Hamas condemned the strike as an attempt to derail negotiations, vowing it would not weaken their resolve.

Arab leaders rushed to Doha following the strike. UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty have all visited. Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was expected later on Thursday. Egypt and the UAE condemned the attack and Israel’s subsequent threats against Qatar.

Qatar announced it will host an emergency Arab-Islamic summit on Sunday and Monday to coordinate a regional response. The UN Security Council also convened an emergency session in New York on Thursday to address the crisis.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has threatened Qatar against hosting Hamas leaders, threatening further action. Qatar’s Foreign Ministry denounced the remarks as “shameful” and a violation of sovereignty, while the UAE said any aggression against a GCC state threatened Gulf security as a whole.

The attack marked Israel’s first strike on Qatari soil, a nation that has played a central role in mediating Gaza ceasefire talks.
