Turkish Foreign Minister appreciates Qatar's expanding role in global diplomacy
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a series of
high-level bilateral meetings on Sunday in Doha, Qatar, on the sidelines of the
Doha Forum. The two-day event, themed "Justice in Action: Beyond Promises
to Progress," gathered influential figures from across the globe,
including diplomats, heads of state, and public figures like Bill Gates and
Hillary Clinton.
During his visit, Fidan met with a range of
leaders, including Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Lebanese Prime
Minister Nawaf Salam, Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide, Iraqi
Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, and Syrian Foreign Minister Assad al-Shaibani.
In comments to the press, Fidan highlighted the growing significance of the Doha Forum, emphasizing Qatar's expanding role in global diplomacy. "Qatar is no longer just a regional mediator – it has become a global mediator," he said, pointing to the country's key involvement in resolving conflicts across Africa and South America.

Fidan stressed the importance of the forum in addressing pressing global issues, particularly regional concerns like Palestine and Syria. "The Doha Forum is extremely important for bringing attention to these issues," he remarked, expressing his satisfaction with the discussions.
The Turkish Foreign Minister also commended
Qatar's leadership, particularly Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Prime
Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, for their
longstanding commitment to mediation efforts.
On Turkey-Qatar relations, Fidan described the
ties as grounded in "unbreakable bonds," underscored by a close
personal relationship between Turkish President Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan and
Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim. He noted the strong cooperation between the two
countries in areas such as investment, economy, technology, education,
security, and defense, and expressed Ankara’s intention to further expand these
collaborations.
Fidan also addressed the ongoing conflict in Gaza, criticizing Israel for "daily and significant violations" of ceasefire agreements and its obstruction of humanitarian aid. He reaffirmed Turkey’s readiness to contribute to peace efforts, including the potential deployment of a stabilization force in Palestine.

On the situation in Syria, Fidan reiterated Turkey's commitment to providing aid and supporting regional initiatives to alleviate the crisis. He also warned that Israel's expansionist policies posed an increasing threat to Syria and the broader Middle East.
