Qatar's mediation effort to secure release of British couple from Afghanistan lauded  

The United Kingdom has commended the State of Qatar for its pivotal role in facilitating the release of two British citizens detained in Afghanistan.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed his gratitude, stating, "I want to pay tribute to the vital role played by Qatar in securing the release of the two British citizens." In a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office, he added, "This long-awaited news will come as a huge relief to them and their family."

British Minister for the Middle East, Hamish Falconer, also acknowledged Qatar's significant involvement, saying, "The State of Qatar played an essential role in this case, and I am hugely grateful for their efforts. Qatar continues to be a key player in conflict mediation in the Middle East and beyond."

Qatar also confirmed its role in facilitating the release of Peter Reynolds and his wife, Barbie Reynolds, who had been detained in Afghanistan. The couple arrived in Doha and will soon depart for London.

In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), HE Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi, Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expressed Qatar's appreciation for the cooperation extended by both the Afghan caretaker government and the United Kingdom in ensuring the success of this mission.
