Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban are scheduled to hold pivotal talks in Doha on Friday, facilitated by Qatar, in a bid to ease ongoing border tensions between the two neighbors.

British media reports indicate that the Taliban’s official social media accounts confirmed a delegation from the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, led by Defense Minister Mullah Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid, will meet with Pakistani security and intelligence officials in Doha today.

Although Pakistan has yet to release an official statement, state media previously confirmed that negotiations were expected to address recent border disputes. Security sources told PTV Digital that discussions were anticipated but did not provide details on timing or location.

Afghan outlet Tolo News also reported the Doha meeting, citing sources close to the development.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently noted in a cabinet meeting that Qatar had offered to mediate between Pakistan and Afghanistan and expressed its “serious willingness” to facilitate dialogue.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar received a message from Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, who praised Pakistan’s constructive role in fostering regional peace and stability. Dar expressed gratitude for Qatar’s ongoing support and mediation efforts.

The talks gain added urgency as the temporary ceasefire between Pakistan and Afghanistan is set to expire at 6 pm today.
